I recently had the pleasure of spending a day with Dave Barter - a man who has given himself a year to research, write and photograph a book celebrating some of the best road rides the UK has to offer. It is, as Dave would probably be the first to admit, a task of not inconsiderable proportions.
Anyhoo, Dave was looking for some pointers to help improve his photography - and I was only too happy to oblige. Anyone who's attended one of my mountain bike photo courses will know the drill by now but, in essence, I spent several hours weaning Dave off his Nikon's idiot modes and persuading him to think more about the picture and less about the metal and glass in front of his face. You can read more about his experiences - and one of the unintended consequences - here. Dave weaves a good yarn and, as I've pointed out to him already, if his book reads as well as his blog, it'll be well worth buying.
