Hello sky, hello ground
Mountain bike photography isn't without its risks - and not always the ones you'd expect. See that guy in the orange jacket falling into the bushes? That's me, that is...
See, it all started with a Manfrotto magic arm attached to the bike, my D40X with fisheye and Pocket Wizard transmitter attached to the magic arm, and me running alongside with an infrared remote and slave flash. It's surprisingly hard to point the remote in roughly the right direction, the flash in exactly the right direction, time the shots to match pedal strokes and still have time to keep half an eye on where your feet are.
Or perhaps not that surprising, after all. Hmm, let's see... what could possibly go wrong with this setup...?
Yep, I got the shots. Eventually.

Haha that's good stuff. I'm really looking forward to trying a setup like this in the summer since I just got my Magic Arm.
Also had the pleasure of finding about 40 Bogen Super Clamps in the dumpster of a local department store (they were using them to hold up clothing racks of all thing). Look out Ebay here I come!

I'll bet you panicked when you saw the state of the Jones until you remembered it should look like that :-)

well, you're using a 29er Jones for a start!
The 26er ones are lovely but I'm not sure about the big wheeled ones - though I will confess my experience is limited to a very brief off-road excursion.

Ah, of course. Clearly, if it had been a 26 inch wheeled titanium-framed 50s cruiser I wouldn't have fallen over. Errr, hang on...
;-P
Actually, it's not the Jones in the video...

I'll bet the D40x comes in handy when you have it to mount a camera on the magic arm like that! Not sure that I would mount the D3 like that with such equanimity.

Hi Joe,
Yep, the D40X is ideal - small, light and I can use the IR remote instead of a cable. The D3 would be just too heavy :)
